30 Day Self-care, Mental Health Awareness Month

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month I am coaching you guys into a 30-Day self-care improvement.

Day 1: Think of yourself as a tree, your roots are grounded in the foundation from where you grew, your life’s journey, your internalized history of the past leading to your present.

Your trunk is your body and the soil surrounding your trunk is all that you have absorbed throughout your life… the nourishment and poison to your soul.

Your leaves sprouted from the roots represents pain, trials, tribulations, joys, accomplishments, disappointments, fears, happiness, sadness, experiences, lessons, relationships, family, growth, loses, failures, personality, character and so forth.

When we reflect on mental well-being and self-care we must consider the following: physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, personal, and professional health. We are going to discuss each one of these beginning with personal health.

We must start with self-first and really dig deep beyond the roots. Don't panic we're not diving deep just yet! Let's start with evaluating our current relationships. If we have toxic relationships whether it is with friends, a significant other, spouse or family we need to reevaluate their purpose and place in our lives.

Are these relationships healthy or toxic?

This week I would like to suggest you guys start a journal and I will be doing this a long with you guys, each step of the way. As I cannot coach these principals if I do not apply them into my own life.

Take a sheet of paper and list all of the people you are close to in your life, friends, family, significant other or spouse.

Reflect on each individual and on a sheet of paper list those you share a healthy relationship with and next to their names list those healthy qualities.

On a second sheet of paper list relationships that are toxic and next to their names list why you consider those relationships to be toxic.

Ask yourself why are you holding onto toxic relationships?
